Dear Students,
Have you been worried about a friend, student, or colleague who appears unwell or in distress, but aren't sure how to intervene? Do you feel uncomfortable engaging in a conversation about their wellbeing, or don't know how to refer to appropriate resources?
Caltech Connect training is an award-winning 2-hour interactive program offered by Student Wellness Services. This training enables you to identify signs of distress, offers concrete strategies for intervention, and provides information about resources and referral options. While Caltech Connect has a particular focus on suicide prevention, the skills you will learn are applicable to a range of situations that you may encounter when working with your colleagues and students. We've had over 1,000 Caltech community members attend this program since its inception, and we'd love for you to get trained as well.
We recognize that sensitive conversations like these can be difficult, and the training is focused on helping you feel better equipped to manage these situations.
Please note that this session is being jointly offered to all students in this term's Peer Advocate and Health Advocate classes, and we also invite any other interested students to join us. No need to RSVP if you're currently enrolled in either one of those classes; otherwise, please RSVP so we know you're coming. Also, please note that Downs-Lauritsen requires ID card access for entry to the building.
